About Version of You
18 year old singer/songwriter, Sophia Rae, explores the illusions we create in our minds in her second single 'Version of You'
My latest song was written alongside Jennah Barry, the well-known folk singer/songwriter, and features backing vocals by JUNO award winner Meaghan Smith. I was fortunate to have it produced in collaboration with ECMA winner Jason Mingo.
In my second single, "Version of You," I delve into the illusions we create in our minds when we fall in love with a version of someone we've created in our head. It highlights the struggle of realizing that you're trapped in this fantasy and unable to let go. It’s a song about recognizing someone's true nature and understanding how much of the relationship is just pieces of your imagination. This latest track blends soulful vocals with an upbeat, irresistibly catchy melody.

Lonely is about choosing loneliness versus staying in a toxic relationship, which so many can relate to.
It’s gotten incredible feedback so far from my peers and lots of popular playlists accepting it, including one that has a success rate of 1%. Lonely has also acquired over 26 000 streams in its first couple months of going live.

I have always been a storyteller.
Music is my outlet to express both my experiences and my creativity. I have been singing since I was small but songwriter only came later in my life, when I was desperately searching for a way to process difficult emotions. When my mind is full of confusion, having the ability to articulate it through lyrics and melodies has been my sanctuary.
Throughout my writing career, I have had the incredible opportunity to work with highly accomplished musicians. It is their mentorship that has taught me so much about myself and my craft.
Jennah Barry was the first to take my ideas and help me turn them into work I was truly proud of. It’s a special moment when you see your lyrics actualize into something that encompasses everything you were aiming to say. As I continued on my songwriting journey Meaghan Smith has had an immense impact on me as an artist as I’ve jumped in to co-writing with her just recently. Along with her husband Jason Mingo, my incredible producer, who is so gifted at truly capturing the feeling tone of the song.
